About Me

My name is Judith Calvin and I set up Health Is Good Food.

I set up my private practice in 2017. At the time I was employed in the NHS and started to notice an increase in frustration amongst my patients at the length of time they had to wait for an appointment and the difficulty they faced in getting the right support at the right time. I realised that people needed to be able to access the expertise of expertly trained dietitians directly and quickly and hence was born my private practice. We are very lucky that our expertise as dietitians and nutritionists can be delivered to anyone, anywhere. We are now a team of 2 registered Dietitians and we work predominantly online. We have  found that our patients prefer this approach since they can remain in the comfort of their own home.

My Experience

I have 18 years experience in total working as a dietitian. I worked in the community as a health promotion dietitian for many years and during that period I devised, implemented and evaluated an obesity programme for 11-14 year old. Over the last 9 years I have specialised as a Paediatric (Children's) Dietitian.

Other Work

I  have the privilege to work as a Part Time Lecturer in my local Further and Higher Education College in their Btec National Diploma and Foundation Degree courses in Childcare, Early Years and Development, and Health and Social Care. I also work as a Tutor for the University of Ulster on their online Farm to Fork Masters Module.

I also offer consultancy work for companies who are creating new products and who require professional nutrition advice and recipe analysis.

My Interests

My speciality and passion lies mainly with treating children, particularly with cow's milk allergy, feeding difficulties, reflux, picky eaters and Type 1 Diabetes. Over the last few years I also developed a keen interest in treating adults and children with bowel problems, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Coeliac Disease, constipation or diarrhoea and women with infertility, who are menopausal or have Poly-cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

About me

I live with my husband and 5 year old son on a Farm outside Ballymena, Northern Ireland. We try to ensure that we eat well ourselves and use as much homegrown, homemade, wholesome food as is possible. However we also like chocolate, sweets and desserts so it's safe to say we are pretty normal! I believe wholeheartedly that good food and nutrition, as well as a healthy balance is one of the most important aspects to preventing and treating disease. I have a real passion for helping people and you can be assured that I will try my best to help.

If you have any health concerns about you or your child it is important to always first consult your GP. If you then wish to avail of my services, you can be assured that I will provide you with professional evidence based dietary treatment and advice.
